She wanted to have long blond hair and straight hair, and she wanted to be able to bounce it around.

Joey Mazzarino, the head writer of Sesame Street, on his young Ethiopian daughter’s relationship with her hair. Mazzarino is the man behind the “I Love My Hair” song, in which a little Muppet with an afro sings a love song to her hair. He tells NPR he wanted to say in song what he says to his daughter: “Your hair is great. You can put it in ponytails. You can put it in cornrows. I wish I had hair like you.” (via newsweek)

I love that her Dad did this. She must feel like a princess and so very loved.
